Interview jargon

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

There’s always going to be certain phrases heard in the office that when used, make your skin crawl. Yet, we all seem to find ourselves participating in  this so called ‘management speak’ from time to time. With this in mind, we want to compile a list of the worst you’ve heard or said in an interview. We’d be grateful if you could take a few minutes to comment below with your examples.

And to get you started, here are a few examples from the team here:

  • ‘Let’s touch base next week’
  • ‘I think we need to reinvent the wheel’
  • ‘Going forward we need to xyz’
  • ‘Pushing the envelope’
  • ‘It’s a no brainer’
  • ‘I’ll ping you an email’
  • ‘Work your way up the ladder’

And the winner is………

We ran a website competition just before Christmas, and now everyone has settled back in after the New Year break we thought we would congratulate the winners on our blog!  The competition gave entrants the chance to win an iPad, an iPod Touch or iTunes vouchers.

We got a huge response from both candidates and clients – all wanting to win one of the prizes! Before we meet one of our winners, we want to say a big thanks to everyone that took part, and for those that didn’t win this time, keep an eye out for future competitions. Following the success of this one we will be running quarterly competitions– so watch this space! (more…)

Merry Christmas from Handle

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

Just a quick post to wish all our readers a very happy Christmas and New Year from the Handle team.  We’ll be taking a well earned break over the festive season to relax, eat, drink and all the other things you do at this time of year!

It’s been a great year for us at Handle; we’ve recently moved to fab new offices, have launched our new executive search division and have welcomed new staff and clients. We have lots of plans for 2011 and can’t wait to get started with them all in the New Year. In the meantime, thank you to all our readers and we’ll be back blogging again very soon!

Have a very Merry Christmas!

Feel the benefit

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Here at Handle we do like to feel as though we go that extra mile. And to prove it we decided that some of our female clients deserved just a little a bit of TLC. Cue Lisa from our Office division who organised a fantastic night of pampering courtesy of our friends at Benefit Cosmetics.

Their team of professional make-up artists arrived at our offices, armed with lipsticks, blushers and eye shadows in all colours imaginable and worked their magic!

While we were given expert tips on how to perfect that smoky eye and achieve that healthy glow, there was also time for a glass or two of bubbly – and some delicious cupcakes from Lola’s bakery.

Our clients from from ASOS, EMAP, PPL and Creston certainly seemed to enjoy their makeovers -  cakes, bubbly and make-up – what more could a girl ask for?
