The latest from Handle Recruitment

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

It’s been a successful year so far for us at Handle Recruitment. We’ve had lots of new clients come on board, plenty of new team members, and we’ve also launched our Fashion & Retail Division. And now, we have some further good news to share – four of our managers have been promoted to directors.

Signalling the next stage of our growth, we would like congratulate and introduce our newly appointed directors:

Dominic Warman, who has been with us since 2002, is now Director of the Sales & Marketing Division.

David Johnston, who has worked for us for over 8 years, is now Director of the HR & Office Perms Division.

Tom Chadwick, who has also been with us since 2003, is now Director of the Finance Division.

Brendon O’Sullivan, who has worked for us for nearly 7 years, is now Director of the Office Temps and Retail Division. (more…)

The British Video Association Awards 2011

Friday, May 27th, 2011

The BVA awards took place on 5th May  and as always, Handle was there to support them as a key sponsor. What a night it was! The annual awards honour the talent of the video entertainment industry. The competition for these awards is always tough, and this year was no exception!

The evening was filled with over 1000 guests, representing some of the top companies in the industry including Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, and iTunes.  We sponsored the after party, and also a table at the event. We took some of the Handle team, as well as a number of our HR clients. We had a great evening – meeting many industry professionals and celebrating well into the night with the many talented winners. (more…)

High Street Fashion Awards 2011

Friday, May 27th, 2011

With the world’s eyes on Britain following the Royal wedding, and more recently the state visit from President Obama, the British high street has won all of the style points. Kate Middleton – the newly crowned first lady of British style – frequently shuns high fashion instead championing the outstanding names of the great British high street. The Duchess of Cambridge trumped both Michelle Obama and Samantha Cameron on the state visit, wearing a stunning bandage dress from Reiss. Kate has always been loyal to the high street wearing a Reiss dress and Whistles blouse for the official engagement photos causing them to fly off the shelves.

And Kate Middleton is not the only one that loves the British High Street. We think that Britain has one of the best fashion high streets in the world! Whether you are looking for a cheap bargain, a mid- ranged outfit, or a high fashion ensemble – the high street has it all! So whatever your budget, you can still look good. (more…)

Letting our hair down

Here at Handle Recruitment we embrace the work hard, play hard ethos. And last weekend, following great results from the whole team, we took a trip to Manchester. The weekend was great fun, we ate good food, sipped plenty of Champagne and enjoyed the unusually good weather.

Here are a few pictures of the team enjoying the trip!

Interview jargon

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

There’s always going to be certain phrases heard in the office that when used, make your skin crawl. Yet, we all seem to find ourselves participating in  this so called ‘management speak’ from time to time. With this in mind, we want to compile a list of the worst you’ve heard or said in an interview. We’d be grateful if you could take a few minutes to comment below with your examples.

And to get you started, here are a few examples from the team here:

  • ‘Let’s touch base next week’
  • ‘I think we need to reinvent the wheel’
  • ‘Going forward we need to xyz’
  • ‘Pushing the envelope’
  • ‘It’s a no brainer’
  • ‘I’ll ping you an email’
  • ‘Work your way up the ladder’

The Agency Workers Regulations: How prepared are you?

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

The new Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) come into force on 01 October 2011. There have been varying levels of confusion over what they involve and what they will mean for businesses. With this in mind, we want to know what your concerns are, and how we can be of assistance in the lead up to October.

What is AWR?

The AWR will affect all companies that employ temporary agency workers. It requires that after 12 weeks these employees are treated the same as permanent staff members in relation to pay and employment conditions.  In other words, a business must give the same rights to an individual recruited by an agency that they would do if they had hired them directly. Red Nose Day: being silly is a serious business!

Monday, March 14th, 2011

This Friday (the 18th of March) is Red Nose Day. Here at Handle we take not taking ourselves seriously very seriously. We also love supporting a great cause. With that in mind, we’re raising money by joining in the fun and debunking a few recruitment myths while we’re at it:

  1. Who says recruiters all need to be suited and booted? At Handle, we’re all changing our LinkedIn photos to show us sporting red noses!
  2. We’ll give up our fees! Well, 25% of them anyway. Choose Handle on Friday, Red Nose Day! We’ll be donating 25% of any permanent fee or 25% of any temp fees (up to one week assignment) earned from any job called in that day to Comic Relief
  3. We have time for the good things in life. Our generous consultants are showing off their culinary skills and whipping up a delicious breakfast treat for the rest of the office to buy. All proceeds will go to Comic Relief.
  4. We like to see our clients! We like seeing them so much that we’re offering them a free butty if they come in to our office on Friday. They say there’s no such thing as a free lunch – and they’re right! We’re not just giving away a delicious spot of breakfast, but we’re also donating £100 to Comic Relief for every client that comes along!
  5. Everyone matters! Our brilliant client, PPL, is running a voluntary TV call centre on Friday. As the hard-working volunteers won’t get to sample our delicious butties, we’re donating Pizza Express vouchers to make sure they’re well fed and rewarded for their amazing work!

We’re really excited to be doing our bit, and you can too! If you’re keen to raise some money for Comic Relief but you’re not sure how to go about it, go to http://www.rednoseday.com/ for some brilliant ideas on how you can be a part of this fantastic project.

Are you in a relationship with your career?

Monday, February 28th, 2011

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that any ambitious professional is in want of the perfect job! Yes, passion for what you do is an absolute must have for almost any position, and when you’re job hunting it’s important to put your all into every application and every interview.

However, job hunting can also be a difficult and discouraging process. With the right recruitment agency, of course the stress can be seriously lifted, if not eliminated, but in reality there is no guarantee that you’ll get that one job you really want.

So when does passion become emotional dependency? How do you keep up your enthusiasm and your motivation without treating a job with the same emotional attachment you might approach a relationship?

Here are a few indicators that you might need to take a small step back in order to convey the right amount of enthusiasm for your job hunt and a few handy tips for handling these understandable worries. (more…)

And the winner is………

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

We ran a website competition just before Christmas, and now everyone has settled back in after the New Year break we thought we would congratulate the winners on our blog!  The competition gave entrants the chance to win an iPad, an iPod Touch or iTunes vouchers.

We got a huge response from both candidates and clients – all wanting to win one of the prizes! Before we meet one of our winners, we want to say a big thanks to everyone that took part, and for those that didn’t win this time, keep an eye out for future competitions. Following the success of this one we will be running quarterly competitions– so watch this space! (more…)
